The wind gradually picked up during the morning, so I got to the beach at around midday and found Ben just entering the water with what I later found out to be his F2 Max2Air 264 and a 5.3m sail.

I rigged my 5.7m sail and my Fanatic Cross board and then put several layers of neoprene on as judging by the frozen puddles in the car park it was going to be pretty cold. This was confirmed when I tried to adjust my footstraps to accomodate my boots and found them to be frozen solid and the velco blocked up with ice. I had to put the board in the sea for a minute or so to thaw them out!

Once I'd sorted that out I was soon on the water, just as Ben was coming out and changing down to a smaller board. I was powered up quite nicely, although it was a little marginal in some of the lulls. Ben didn't really get going on his smaller board so soon changed back up. I'd had a cold for a while so was quite pleased that the conditions weren't too hardcore and just enjoyed blasted back and forth with a few little jumps here and there, some nice gybes and the odd little turn on the face of a wave. Nothing too exciting but it was good to be out on the water.

The cold and the layers of neoprene also meant that I was taking things easy out there. Derek was also out with his kite, and as I was packing up, Simon went out kitesurfing too.
Not a bad session for the first of 2003.
